Glossary of Terms

Banner
located within the header, a banner is used to draw attention to a certain topic or subject related to the site's content
Content Management System (CMS)
software that allows publishing, editing, and modifying content on a website as well as maintenance from a central interface
Focus and Resource Site
a website that focuses on a specific topic or area-of-practice; offers answers to FAQs and additionally useful information regarding said topic
Fullsite
a collection of web pages which are meant to showcase a firm, its practice areas, and perhaps even the attorneys within that firm; common pages may include Contact Us, About Us (or About the Firm), and can include pages of testimonials, cases, etc....
Micropage
a single-page, practice-area-specific web page
Microsite
a collection of about 3 micropages under one domain name
Search Engine Marketing
a form of internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their search engine results pages (SERPs) through optimization (SEO) and/or even paid advertising
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
the process of improving the visibility of a website or web page in a search engine's "natural" or un-paid search results; SEO is imperative to achieving a high search result
Sidebar
contains various information along the side of a web page/site; can be directly related to a page's content, not related at all, or a mixture of the two
Slider
located in the header, a slider is a collection of banners (also called "slides") which rotate/cycle through at a timed interval; sliders tend to be more valuable/useful than banners because they use the same space as a banner, but can provide more information within a designated space
Vanity Domain Name
a domain name that uses keywords specifically related to a site's content; such names often sell for thousands of dollars due to their high search volume
